Kim is most known for Teen World Confidential, International Sex Education Day, and Sex Education Alliance. Author of the book: Teen World Confidential: Five-Minute Topics to Open Conversation about Sex and Relationships.
Talking to kids about sexuality can be very difficult for many reasons… but we learn that it doesn’t have to be as uncomfortable as parents fear. Kim has used these strategies with hundreds of parents to help them be more comfortable talking to their children about seemingly “uncomfortable” topics.
Something about Kim that really impressed me is she’s a member of Zonta International, which is an organization focused on advancing women’s rights and gender equality.
Most importantly, caregivers must build a foundation of trust and love in order to have effective conversations about sex. You can build this foundation by being available, using humor, and by giving children room to grow. We will discuss some of the components of those conversations and how young people with ADHD may need additional support.
Finally, we will review simple tips on how to get the conversation going with your kids. By the end of our workshop, caregivers will feel empowered to start a conversation with your child. Conversation starters will help you get those conversations going.
LESSON DESCRIPTION:
We will talk about the barriers adults face when talking to kids about sex. Sexuality is a deeply personal topic, but we must face our own discomfort with this topic.
