She is most known for her seminal work in the field of Twice Exceptional education.

Her life’s work is building a case for a strength-based, talent-focused approach instead of focusing on deficits.

One thing about Susan that really impressed me is she was a professor at the Graduate School of the College of New Rochelle from 1986-2006 where she taught graduate courses in elementary education as well as the education of gifted and talented students.

Dr. Baum will use stories of students to provide an insightful understanding of the workings and minds of bright students with ADHD. She will share the confusions that arise when interpreting behavior with such students, when attention drifts in the classroom because of the pace of learning, with the overall lack of novelty, and with a curriculum that is too convergent.

Dr. Baum will share strategies that will support the integration of the talents the ADHD/gifted mind brings to the learning environment that have been shown to engage youngsters and increase their productivity.

She will ask you to consider what you can do to support these students using a positive lens that asks the question “What can this youngster do?” rather than identifying him or her by what they cannot do.

Welcome to a provocative yet practical session.

Dr. Susan Baum, Ph.D | Director of the 2e Center for Research and Professional Development at Bridges Academy, and Provost of the Bridges Graduate School for Cognitive Diversity in Education.

She's the 2010 recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award, the 2015 Distinguished Professional Alumni Award from the Neag School of Education, and the Alexinia Baldwin Award from National Association for Gifted Students in 2019.
